September 11th marks a painful day in American history when, 16 years ago, a series of deadly terrorist attacks shook the nation. We all have different ways of remembering the anniversary of 9/11 but one of the most moving tributes is New York City Ballet's "New Beginnings" dance film.

Released on September 12, 2013 (12 years after the attacks) "New Beginnings," is a powerful piece that honors the resilience of a city that endured great tragedy, and still overcame. Shot in the morning hours, dancers Maria Kowroski and Ask la Cour perform a pas de deux from British choreographer Christopher Wheeldon's ballet "After the Rain." With the New York City skyline in the background, and One World Trade Center as the focal point, the poignant performance reminds us of our humanity and helps us 'never forget', while also bringing hope for the future. Take a look at NYCB's emotional tribute below.
